Calton Hills is seeking an experienced, steady and capable Head Stockman to lead our stock camp and support day-to-day cattle operations across the station. This is a key leadership role on a well-run Northern pastoral property located just one hour from Mount Isa.

Calton Hills Station is a large, Indigenous-owned pastoral property located approximately one hour north-west of Mount Isa, Queensland. Covering around 500,000 hectares, the station encompasses a diverse mix of country, supporting large-scale cattle operations across varying landscapes and conditions.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities

The Head Stockman will:

  • Lead the stock camp and daily cattle operations.

  • Coordinate mustering (heli, bikes, horses, buggies).

  • Handle cattle calmly and efficiently with low-stress methods.

  • Oversee weaner handling, yard work and herd health.

  • Help maintain fencing, waters and general station infrastructure.

  • Train and mentor junior staff.

  • Work closely with the Station Manager to keep operations running smoothly.

Job Requirements

  • Experienced Stockman with 10+ years experience.

  • Strong stock skills with a calm, low-stress style.

  • Confident on horses and/or motorbikes.

  • Proven ability to lead and train a small team.

  • Practical, reliable, and safety-focused.

  • Comfortable living and working in remote northern conditions.
